My headlights barely split the early morning fog. If not for the familiarity of the smooth highway surface, I might have pulled off the road. Was it crazy to continue home in these conditions?
How often have I felt my path was covered in a shroud? Not knowing where the next step would take me, I pleaded with the Lord for direction.
Where do you go, when you don’t know where to go? Many have said, when you don’t know what to do, do the next thing in front of you. In my need for control, I think I have to be in control. But God asks me to depend on Him and that includes relinquishing my self-sufficiency into His capable hands. In return, He gives me tools to equip me for the journey—His Word, prayer, companionship of other believers, the legacy of saints who have gone before me, and the counsel of His Holy Spirit.
Exercise:
What do you do when you don’t know what to do?
Every writer has tools of the trade within reach—a dictionary, thesaurus, Bible commentary, Writers, Market, and a search engine, to name a few.
What implements could you employ in your WIP?
Are you creating a roster of characters? How about a book of baby names to enhance your choices? Are you utilizing a certain region of the country for your setting? An atlas helps to measure proximity.
Just as I pull utensils out of the kitchen drawer before I make pie dough, I also stock my desk for the work at hand. Instead of a pastry cutter or rolling pin, I have pencils, my Bible, a notebook and a lamp. Those equip me to work with the desired goal in sight, even when brain fog blocks my view.

- What can help you follow their example? 2 Timothy 3:16-17.
In a well-furnished kitchen there are not only crystal goblets and silver platters, but waste cans and compost buckets—some containers used to serve fine meals, others to take out the garbage. Become the kind of container God can use to present any and every kind of gift to his guests for their blessing.
