The anointing you received from Him remains in you…
1 John 2:27HCSB
Darkness encircled our back-patio meeting. The early-onset sunset brought a fall chill with it, and we snuggled deeper into our jackets. Our writers’ group listened eagerly as Julia talked about her trip to the ACFW conference and the shroud of night gave us an opportunity to use our imaginations, triggered by the words spoken.
When I considered the faces around the table, I realized I was no longer seeing them. Had the people changed? No, we were still the same. Had the purpose altered? No, we were still at a gathering of writers, just sitting in the dark. And that makes a good premise for the call we have on our lives to write the message God has given to us individually and collectively.
Has doubt assailed you?
Have you questioned your call to write?
Think back to when you felt that first nudge. What convinced you that God ordained your words? What sustains them yet today? Though our world is covered in darkness, God’s anointing has not changed. By abiding in Him, we acquire the authenticity we need to write and communicate His truth.
What does it mean to abide? Roget’s Desk Thesaurus says, “stay, remain, tarry, linger, stop, live, visit, sojourn.” When we tarry with the Lord, we’re giving Him time to realign our perspectives and focus our priorities. He infuses us with His Spirit and ordains the commission laid on our hearts to be His scribes.
Exercise:
Have events in the news caused you to question your message?
When words fail you, do you still have something to say?
Mark 16:15 What are we expected to do?
Romans 10:15 What must happen in order to share the message?
1 Corinthians 9:16 What message are you compelled to share?
2 Timothy 4:1-2 What is Paul’s charge to all of us?
2 Timothy 4:5 What steps can we take to follow Paul’s instructions?
When darkness closes in around you, remember you have been chosen to convey God’s love to a dying world. He will teach you what to say and will crown His Word in your faithful witness. Soldier on and carry the Light!
…as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie, just as it has taught you, abide in him.
1 John 2:27 RSV
