The Writerly Cafe

Welcome to the Writerly Cafe

May 4, 2016

a3DDmay16I’m excited to welcome each of you to the Writerly Cafe at Almost An Author. Here, you’ll find a place where writers gather to ask questions, exchange ideas, discuss hot writing topics and simply embrace the joy of writing. Being with others who share the same passion starts creative juices flowing. I hope the topics on our menu board each month will spark new writers to put pen-to-paper and experienced writers to deepen their love of this craft.

From time-to-time I will ask for your questions on issues of interest to writer’s. Please don’t feel any question is unimportant or too elementary to bring to the table. I will research the answers to your questions and do my best to be of help. I am blessed with many friends who are well versed in all areas of writing and have offered to share their wisdom concerning your questions.

“Passion and purpose go hand in hand. When you discover your purpose you will normally find it is something you are tremendously passionate about.”
Steve Pavlina

Using the word passion above prompted me to toss out our first question. (Hosting the column does have its perks!)

I’m assuming you’re interested in writing if you’re reading this, but would you say that writing is your passion? If no one ever read your work, would you continue writing, or would you consider walking away? Please share your answers to these, or any other questions you might have, in the comment section below.

But first, I need to let you in on a secret. You never know when a special guest might join us at the café to offer encouragement, give glimpses into their writing journey, or share their best writing tips. Be sure tocoffee-1111666_640 keep your eye on the door!

Again, welcome to this new place in town. As in any café, we can always pull another chair to our table. The more writers, the better. Pour a cup of coffee, find a seat, and let’s tackle these questions and topics with gusto.

Please return each month to check the menu board. In the meantime, I welcome and appreciate your comments. Follow-up questions are encouraged.

Dee Dee what a great place. I am looking forward to visiting the Cafe more often. I would keep writing because it is healing to me. My blog is my place to write how God works HIs word in and through me. It can be raw and realistic but it has transformed my thinking.

    Dee Dee,

Thank you for that warm welcome! In prayer I have realized recently my passion is for speaking for the Lord. I enjoy writing and want to continue to learn and improve, but I began the writing to be obedient to Our Lord. Since I have begun writing, God has revealed many things about how He is molding me. Love how He works!

Dee Dee, excited for this new venture and all the tips and information you and your guest will be sharing. As you know, I will write even if no one else reads it. Writing is both therapeutic and cathartic.

Dee Dee, thanks for a place to gather. I’m looking forward to the topics, questions, and just chatting with the participants. I would write in some form or other – be it journaling, blogging, or just for the fun of it. I love crafting words and bringing thoughts to life on paper. Thanks again.

Good for you, Dee Dee! Looking forward to visiting your cafe. Please save me a seat, preferably a rocker ☺

Cynthia, your rocker awaits. So good to have you join us and it is nice hearing from you.

    Ah, Dee Dee!

I’m grateful for a seat at the table.
As you know, I consider my writing to be primarily prayers and journaling. At the last conference, I identified my passion with my writing. So far, I have not started my project. If I do, it will be Spirit generated.

The answer to your question, is I write for myself. If God chooses to use anything I write, it will be His grace working for His glory in spite of me. Just as his amazing grace saved a wretch like me, it will be a miracle.

May God bless you and all you do in service to our Lord Jesus Christ,

    Paul

Writing is definitely my passion; not only would I continue writing if I was never published, I’ve been doing just that for most of my life. 🙂 But I long to be published, and I have to admit that I even dream of quitting my (very stressful for a myriad of reasons) job to write full-time. I’m such a cliché 🙂

Thank you for your comment, Patti. Praying for you as you continue your writing journey. I hope you will visit the cafe often.

    Dear Dee Dee,

I love this. What a wonderful place to gather, and in answer to your question, YES! Writing is a passion for me — I can’t help myself. It provides a way for me to express my passion for God and hopefully stir hearts toward Jesus. I look forward to visiting again. Love in Christ to you.

Writing is definitely my passion. My husband claims I get cranky when life gets in the way and I’m not able to write, even if it’s just a paragraph or two! I’ve considered walking away from the publishing thing because of the roller coaster of emotions, but I doubt I would ever walk away from writing. This cafe looks like it’s going to be a great place. I already appreciate the blog and everything I’ve learned. Thanks for posting.

Linda, I understand about getting cranky when unable to write. I have leaned to write for the joy of the writing first…when I did that, the publishing followed. So happy you will be joining us at the cafe..thank you so much for your comment.

What a fun place to gather! Truthfully, writing is not my passion yet. But on the other hand, it might be. I find myself devouring everything about writing. Stories are constantly forming in my head, but I can’t seem to get them down on paper. I have several things in progress and that is exciting to me. This seems like the ideal place to gather, share and perservere. Thanks for starting this, Dee Dee.

Fine post. I learn something more difficult
on different sites everyday. It will constantly
be provoking to read content from other writers and practice a little something
from their store. I’d favor to use some with
the content on my site whether you do’t mind. Natually I’ll give you a link on your web site.
    Thanks for sharing.

It is wonderful to have a place like Writerly Cafe to read and reflect on writing. I’ve been writing for a long time and I learn something new each time I visit I new place on the craft of writing. Writing is my passion, a gift from God. I hope to spend time creating writing inspired by how I am led to use my particular gifts where I am now and not worry about where I will be tomorrow.
